Help turn Barnet into a borough of mini wildflower meadows
This autumn, Barnet residents and community groups are invited to transform pots, balconies and garden patches into beautiful mini wildflower meadows for pollinators and biodiversity.
The Mini Meadow Movement is a borough-wide community challenge organised by the Finchley Pollinator Project in partnership with Barnet Council. Together, we aim to plant 600 mini meadows in 60 days (September and October 2026).
Whether you are completely new to gardening or already love growing plants, taking part is simple, free and beginner-friendly.
Every mini meadow counts — and together, our community can create something joyful, hopeful and much bigger than any of us could achieve alone 🌱
Why mini meadows matter
Since the 1930s, the UK has lost around 97% of its wildflower meadows.
Wildflower meadows:
-Provide food and shelter for bees, butterflies and other pollinators
-Support biodiversity and healthier ecosystems
-Help absorb rainwater and support climate resilience
-Add colour, beauty and life to outdoor spaces
Even a small patch or pot can make a real difference.
What counts as a mini meadow?
A mini meadow can be:
-A garden patch (up to around 3 square metres)
-A flower bed
-A balcony planter
-A large pot or container
-A community growing space
No gardening experience is needed.

Volunteer with the Mini Meadow Movement 🤝
While we prepare for launch, we are looking for friendly local volunteers to help make the project happen.
Volunteer roles are simple and flexible, and may include:
-Helping manage neighbourhood WhatsApp groups
-Supporting seed packing and distribution
-Spreading the word locally
-Helping participants access information and support
No major commitment or gardening expertise is needed — just a willingness to support a positive community effort for nature.
Because Barnet is such a large borough, volunteers will play a huge role in helping the movement succeed.

A community movement for nature 🌍
The Mini Meadow Movement builds on a successful Finchley pilot project where residents came together to create dozens of mini meadows in just 60 days.
This year, we’re scaling up across the borough — creating a growing network of mini meadows that support pollinators, biodiversity and greener neighbourhoods across Barnet.
We’d love you to be part of it 🌼
