Visit our heritage exhibition exploring the history of Finchley’s community gardens and green spaces, and the local groups and volunteers who care for them today.
Meadow & Bulb in a Pot workshop
Create your own mini meadow and plant pollinator-friendly bulbs in a pot to take home. These small, portable habitats can bring colour and food for pollinators to gardens, balconies and other small spaces. Make a “Saucer Meadow” sign
Bring a loose, single saucer (ideally white) and turn it into a sign for your own mini meadow. Get creative and help others recognise and celebrate pollinator-friendly spaces.
All activities are free, and you’re welcome to drop in and explore the event between 11am and 2pm. Only the Meadow & Bulb in a Pot workshop requires advance booking.
This event is organised by Finchley Pollinator Project, with support from Barnet Council and our wider community partners. It is part of Barnet Climate Action Week, the Mini Meadow Movement, and Light + Flight’s Pollinators, Pathways and the Historic Walks of Finchley.
Stephens House and Gardens: a Grade ll listed house with extensive landscaped gardens, gifted for the use and enjoyment of the people by Henry Charles ‘Inky’ Stephens of the Stephens’ Ink Company. The landscaped grounds feature design elements by the renowned Victorian landscape gardener Robert Marnock. Visitors can explore a unique arboretum, a rockery, a bog garden known as the Dell, and peaceful woodland walking paths.
Finchley Pollinator Project: a community-led group working to improve local habitat for pollinators. Over the last four years we engaged many of the local organisations, groups and individuals, increasing marginalised people’ wellbeing by engaging with nature through joyful activities which also improve the local area.
Light + Flight is presented by Art in Barnet. It is supported by a Cultural Impact Award, part of the Mayor’s London Borough of Culture programme. It is made possible with additional support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. The Community Heritage Grants are made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Mini Meadow Movement: an initiative inviting residents across Barnet to create small wildflower meadows for pollinators and biodiversity in gardens, pots, balconies, driveways and other outdoor spaces. Participants can sign up to receive free wildflower seeds, along with ongoing guidance and support. Every mini meadow contributes to a growing network of habitats, helping create something bigger than any one garden, balcony or allotment could achieve alone.
