We’ve put together a list of climate resources for schools that are were created by a variety of national charities. There are also initiatives and networks schools can join. Please download the list below.
Teaching sustainability in schools is crucial for shaping environmentally conscious citizens. By incorporating sustainability into the curriculum and initiating hands-on activities & initiatives, schools not only provide students with essential knowledge about environmental challenges but also instill a sense of responsibility towards the planet. Understanding sustainable practices from a young age empowers students to make informed choices, fostering a generation committed to preserving our environment for the future.
Recognising the urgency of climate change, government recommendations and decisions regarding climate education in schools have evolved significantly. The Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy was launched in 2022 and its aim is for the UK to be the world-leading education sector in sustainability and climate change by 2030, with five steps summarised here.
To support schools in implementing effective sustainability education, we at Our Home Our Planet CIC, an environmental not-for-profit that runs Eco Show and Tell sustainability knowledge fairs and workshops in Barnet, have compiled a list of valuable resources for schools created by reputable UK charities. These resources cover a wide range of topics, including renewable energy, waste reduction, and biodiversity conservation. The list also signposts important networks that aim to inform schools of events as well as grant opportunities. By leveraging these materials, educators can enhance their teaching methods and provide students with diverse perspectives on environmental issues. We hope that out of the sixty resources included in the list, you will be able to find at least a few suitable for your school.
